I have a Mac running OS X 10.8.5, default launcher 1.2.4 and vanilla Minecraft 1.6.4.
I realized that Minecraft was running on Java 6 for some reason, so looked around to find out why and if I could get it to use Java 7.
I had Java 6 update 51 installed.
At the same time, Java 7 update 40 is installed in a different location.
I deleted Java 6 from my computer. The Minecraft.app package no longer worked when double-clicked, since JavaApplicationStub couldn't find the java executable anymore.
However, I found the file Bootstrap.jar in the .app package, and I tried opening that. It opened the launcher just fine. The launcher now showed that it was running Java 7 update 40.
I launched Minecraft. It ran fine. No real performance improvements, but nothing appeared broken.
Why does the .app package executable still look for Java 6 and not Java 7 if it works fine? Will this ever be updated?
