Hi all,
Yeah, so I'm having major issues with the new minecraft launcher. I can play it on my desktop, but my laptop kinda bugs out on me. I looked up the issue but none of it helps me and it tends to end unresolved. So, let me explain the situation.

Minecraft's new launcher won't work, because of a "fatal bootstrap error." it states that "access is denied" even after I've disabled my antivirus and firewall. I'll post the full message, but could somebody please help? I really want to play minecraft.

It didn't work, still getting the error message as per above. Any other ideas?

Permissions doesn't necessarily mean anything relating to firewalls/antivirus. Try running the launcher under administrator mode. Right click, run as administrator.

I tried that already, but thanks for the idea. It doesn't work.

Can you expand upon that? I'm confused- do you mean Minecraft or Windows?
Minecraft is completely untouched as of right now- no mods, no texture packs.
Windows (7) is left as-is as well. It's a fairly new laptop.

Okay, so I ran a system restore because I think it may have been something I did. Lo and behold, my problem ceased to exist- mainly because the launcher refuses to even start now.

Mo' fixes, mo' problems.

Newest update, I guess. I fixed up Java (don't know how), so that's good. I ran into the same problem with Minecraft, though. I just can't understand what the problem is.
Please help.

I only have a couple more posts because of the new user restriction, so I'll just do a daily update thing until somebody can help me. I woke up this morning, late, and decided to check it. See if there was something fixed- still no. So then I tried the online version (minecraft.net/play) Still nothing. This is really frustrating, I wish we could get this fixed

I'm going to guess that you have an anti-virus that is scanning the just downloaded launcher.jar, and until it finishes other applications aren't allowed to open the file. You might try configuring your anti-virus to not scan the directory C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\

I do not have an active antivirus.
