at certain angles there are many black boxes around my chests and they are very annoying. block updates do not help and neither does turning up my smooth lighting. im on a server but it does it on regular sp as well

You have an ongoing issue that is documented here.
Please try going to Options -> Video Settings -> Smooth Lighting, and try toggling it on and off to see if you still get the issue.
If you do, please provide a DxDiag log.
