Every time I try to open the Minecraft.app, the software update icon appears and a message tells me:
"To open 'Minecraft,' you need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the internet."
I have installed Java 7, and obviously have a solid connection to the internet.
You may need to install all available Software Updates available for your Mac.
To do so, click the Apple icon in the top left of the screen, and click Software Update. Continue to install updates until there are none.

You may also need to revert to Java 6,
