Occasionally when playing Minecraft, the game will start freezing for about 1 second at a time, every 2-3 seconds. My FPS never drops down during the time the game is frozen. This intermittent freezing just started again about 10 minutes ago when I was playing the new snapshot. I tried restarting the game and even closing every open program, including temporarily disabling my firewall and anti-virus, to no avail. A few hours ago, I was playing the snapshot with Chrome and iTunes and other programs running without any freezing. This problem has also occurred while playing 1.6.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related or just very unoptimized code in Minecraft, but for the past few months, the average FPS has been 40-70, while I think I should be getting a lot higher than that with my system.
AMD Phenom II X2 555 currently running quad-core @ 3.7GHz
4GB DDR2-800 RAM
Intel 330 SSD
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
Even after upgrading from a Radeon HD 4850 512MB to a GTX 760 2GB last month, my framerate has stayed the same or possibly dropped a little.
I just started up Minecraft and ran into the same problem right away. Usually, this only happens every once in a while. This time, with the F3 menu open, I could see my fps jump back and forth between 150 and 0. Here's the crash report:
My executable was set to javaw.exe in the same directory, but I changed it.
I'm still having the same problem, but it's only occurring on my one survival world running on the new snapshot, and not on my other survival world and not with 1.6.2. I have experienced this same issue before with 1.6.2 though.
No. I just did a little more testing in my survival world, and it seems like the problem only starts when I go to a certain place. If I can somehow make it out of that area while it keeps freezing, then reload the world, it won't occur again until I go back to that area. It starts when I enter my branch mine. There's nothing around except for tunnels and some lava.
We can now conclude that it's world corruption, according to how you are describing it.
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.
Although, it may be also caused by erroring entities. In order to remove entities from a map, follow these steps. Warning: This will delete any and all entities in the selected region, including tamed animals! Open the map in MCEdit, select the affected region or use CTRL-A to select the whole world, then click on 'Delete Entities' in the menu on the left hand side.
