Hello! I recently upgraded to an ssd and have had problems reinstalling 64 bit java. I had no problem with the old install but for some reason whenever I install it minecraft defaults to 32. I even uninstalled the 32 bit but it caused minecraft to not even launch. I haven't played since the new launcher was implemented so maybe this has something to do with that?
First, go to the Programs and Features in Control Panel(Add and Remove Programs on XP). Uninstall everything that says Java in the name. Then, go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and install the 64-bit version.
Then open a Command Prompt window by searching "cmd" at start, type in
When I check it in the command promp i get 'java' is not recongnized as an internal or external command........... even when I try to varifiy it on the java website it encounters an error unless I have the 32 bit installed, I am quite fankly puzzled.
I dont think it is a hardware issue do to incapatablity because it was running on the system before and I am far above the requirments, i7,GTX 770 ect the only change is the ssd I added.
Don’t worry you can have 64-bit and 32-bit version of Java installed at the same time. so re install your 32 bit... it should auto run on 64 if you installed the correct 64bit java.. use this to check... http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Hi,
64-bit should work fine.
If it doesn't, you're installing it wrong.
You need to reinstall Java.
First, go to the Programs and Features in Control Panel (Add and Remove Programs on XP). Uninstall everything that says Java in the name. Then, go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and install the 64-bit version.
Then open a Command Prompt window by searching "cmd" at start, type in and tell us the output.
I dont think it is a hardware issue do to incapatablity because it was running on the system before and I am far above the requirments, i7,GTX 770 ect the only change is the ssd I added.
Sorry if my english is not correct!
let me know if this helps!

Retired StaffYes you should change it. The (x86) one points to the 32-bit install.
