I just recently started playing again and upgraded to the new launcher. I tried to play Beta 1.7.3 and this happens: //i.imgur.com/TwunPLk.png" target="" data-ensure-absolute>this"]http://i.imgur.com/TwunPLk.png Beta 1.8 and onward works just fine, but any Beta version where you can see your character, this happens (mobs are affected also). I suspect a graphics card issue. I have an Intel HD 4000 with the latest drivers. Any ideas? Thanks!
Open the versions file in your .minecraft and open the version you want in winrar/7zip so you can see all of the files within (the VERSION.jar). Then open the "mobs" file, are all of the mobs textures in that file? If not try and copy them from your newer minecraft to that one, any difference?
The textures were there, but I tried to copy the new ones over anyway. No difference.
I don't think that it's to do with your graphics card... I own a computer with that graphics card and ran minecraft 1.7.3 and I get no glitches like that.
Change the launcher settings so that it stays open after you press play, to do this select "edit profile", check the box marked "launcher visibility", change the new box to "Keep the launcher open" and then press save profile and then play. During the game load do you see any errors at all?
The only thing that looks like it might be an error is:
WARNING: Found unknown Windows version: Windows 8
Could all this be because of WIndows 8? I'm using a legitimate version of it; I don't see why it would say it's unknown.
That's just because Windows 8 wasn't released when minecraft 1.7.3 was released, it doesn't make a difference. Also, the test I did on my other computer is running Windows 8...
Try running the launcher in compatibility mode for windows XP, to do this, right click on the launcher icon, open the properties window, select the "compatibility" tab, check "run this program in compatibility for", select "Windows XP", then apply. Run the launcher now and open it. Do you get any errors in the minecraft console this time?
One step ahead of you Tried that just a couple minutes ago, but no luck yet. :/
There was definitely a few graphics changes during 1.8, can you play minecraft versions before 1.7.3? If so, delete the version file for 1.7.3 and re-download it. Anything?
It looks like I can play all the versions (haven't tested them all, obviously, I'm just assuming after a few tests) and all of them before Beta 1.8 have the problem with the mobs (and the player, if visible). Tried deleting all the old versions and redownloading, still nothing.
I'm pretty sure I do. I was running a 32 bit version for God knows what reason before, but I switched to 64 bit. I've made multiple new worlds and they're all doing this.
Would an older version of Java possibly solve this?
Edit: I'm going home from my dorm for the weekend so I'll test this on my other machine (MacBook Pro with Win 7 Bootcamp). I'll report back to you on that tonight.

Anyways, I've got to head out now. If you think of anything else, let me know; I'll be back tonight. You've been a great help so far. Peace.
Edit: Yeah, it appears to work just fine on my other machine. Something is configured differently on this one... somewhere.
