Hi, i was trying to open minecraft 1.6.2 on my mac 10.8.2 and i was always getting the error message "the jar file couldn't be launched. check the console for possible error messages". I have the latest version of java. Please help i am dying to play the new version

You need to install all available Software Updates available for your Mac.
To do so, click the Apple icon in the top left of the screen, and click Software Update. Continue to install updates until there are none.
Then please download the mac client from here, if you already have it, download it again, if it still doesn't work, use this one instead.
Java provided from Apple should work fine.
