Ok to start off I just want to say I am a "noob" to this site so sorry if I posted in the wrong forum category. BUT anyway I just wanted to ask if any of you guys can possibly help me with a problem. I am on an Acer Aspire M5-583P-6428 with 8gb or ram, a 500 gb HDD, Intel i5 processor with turbo boost, and an Intel HD Graphics 4400. Now to the issue. My PC runs minecraft perfectly. Around 30 FPS on high settings and around 120 on normal settings (depending on lag). Now the weird thing is that when I am on a server/world and when I try to multitask between other programs I tend to minimize minecraft but when I do...my display driver crashes I have the latest driver and have 64 bit java installed. I just hope you guys can help me out
The multitasking is the problem. Are the other programs games or something like Internet explorer?
Well, by multitasking I mean like say for this example: I want to open skype or something while minecraft is running, I minus out of minecraft and yet the graphics driver still doesn't respond even with or without something running in the background. Since I have 8 gb of ram I tried giving more ram to java to try to make it run smoother but yet it still has this issue. Any other ideas?
I just got a Dell Inspiron 15R model 5537 to replace the one the kids broke. It has Windows 8 pre-installed, Java 1.7u40 64bit, all patches. When in a game, if I press ALT+TAB to select the desktop -- nothing else currently running, nothing else selected to run -- ,when I get to the desktop, the display driver "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered".
The two things in common with the OP is "64 bit Java" and "Intel HD Graphics 4400".
I've tried downloading the latest display driver from Dell (I already have them) as well as from Intel (the setup.exe tells me to go to Dell) (that's a D not an H).
I'll try to find the right incantation for me, and post back ... just wanted to let the OP know that he's not alone...
1. I have managed to get Intel's latest display drivers installed ( Intel HD Graphics Family v9.18.10,3257 , from Intel's WIN64_153117.zip ). Procedure : "update" from Dell driver to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter", reboot. Extract all files from zip. Update from MS Basic, manually select driver, browse to extracted zip folder. Reboot. However, this seemed to have zero effect.
2. I have un-installed Java 64-bit. Zero effect.
The only thing that "works" (does not cause the display adapter to crash when ALT+TAB'ing) is to use Minecraft 1.5.2 or 1.5.1 . I did not try earlier versions. When I try MC 1.6.1 , 1.6.2, or 1.6.4, the display adapter crashes. There's got to be a new feature in the MC code that doesn't play well ...
Still looking for a good solution (in the absence of a good display adapter...)
After trying all sorts of things (TdrDelay in registry, all combinations of MineCraft Video settings, Windows Compatibility settings, run as Administrator, sacrificing a goat or two), nothing really works with MC 1.6.4 .
The good news is ... everything works like a charm with the latest snapshot, 13w38c . There's hope that the issue will be completely resolved by 1.7 . In the meantime, the kids are under strict instructions to absolutely single-task.
I didn't pursue this ... but I noticed that there's a command line option that is run by MineCraft.exe launcher, which includes the phrase 'MojangTricksIntelDriversForPerformance'. Not sure what that is, and I didn't check to see if that exists in 1.5.x or 13w38x. I've run out of time...
Ted.
