My Windows 7 x64 system is currently configured to use quadraphonic sound (2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers), and that works great in Minecraft - if stuff behind me makes noise, I hear it from the rear speakers. However, if I put on headphones (late at night, or if the room is too noisy), Minecraft continues to try to play sounds through the rear speakers even though they technically no longer exist, so everything behind me becomes completely silent, resulting in rather unfortunate mob encounters.
Is there a way to force Minecraft to ignore surround speakers and only output in stereo, or do I need to go into Windows sound properties and disable the rear speakers for all applications (and close/restart Minecraft) whenever I need to use my headphones?

Other games have configuration options to change the number of speakers to use, but I can't find any similar option in Minecraft - does such an option exist, or is this something which it isn't even capable of doing?
At the very least, this could become a bug report or feature suggestion, but I fail to see how this could possibly be considered to be an "equipment failure"...

This is the support section for minecraft not a support section for equipment failures. Please post in the correct section next time. Thanks!
