Minecraft Launcher not opening?

I updated my launcher straight away (when 1.6 came out), and I also used the snapshot and it worked fine. However now that it is properly released it no longer works, it doesn't open at all. It is really annoying me as I really like Minecraft and I hope it doesn't mean I have to ditch my machine to play again. Thanks for any help.

Howdy, try reinstalling minecraft. If that doesnt work, post any error logs and DxDiag information.

Remove all versions of Java present on the machine. Reboot. Grab Java 8,
