Hi,
I've been playing Minecraft pretty much since the game started, but with the new launcher I have encountered "waves" of extreme lag. I can open up Minecraft and play for about 3-5 minutes before the extreme lag starts. It lags so much that I can hardly disconnect or close Minecraft. It lags equally on multi-player (LAN and servers) and single player. If I wait 5-10 minutes the lag goes away only to come back a minute later. The lag happens equally in all resource packs (I play 1.6.2). If I manage to restart minecraft, it doesn't lag for another couple minutes.
I have tried increasing the memory allotted to Minecraft to 2G, but during the lag if I look at how much memory java is using in Windows Task Manager it is not anywhere near the max. I can run large modpacks (FTB Ultimate, etc.) that use Minecraft 1.5.2 with only moderate to little lag (constant, no "waves" of extreme lag).
I have made sure I have the current version of java. I have uninstalled and re-installed Minecraft. I have tried installed optifine (and had an increase in fps before/after the waves of lag, but no reduction in the lag spikes). I do not know what else I can do.
If you have any advice, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers,
LordJackV
P.S. I am moderately clueless about computers, so please tell me if my drivers or something aren't up to date (system specs below).

@cestislife I already have 64-bit java. I will install the driver, but if that was the case, why would I be able to run older modpacks fine and but not the current minecraft?

Please also install 64-bit Java if you have not already done so,
