This may be a strange set of words, but i'm glad i'm not the only one going though this. For a moment i thought my account was hacked and I was going to have to reset my modem router.
I think I figured out what is happening. The session servers for Mojang are currently down so we will have to try maybe in a couple of hours. Check out this link to see what's up: Minecraft Services Status ยท Is Minecraft Down?
I just checked and I have the latest version of Java and I still can't log in to Minecraft servers.I have the latest version of Java installed and I still can't log in to servers.

Mojang's servers are down. Until they come back up, you won't be able to join any SMP games with Online validation. That's all the information i can provide, you can see the status of the servers here: http://help.mojang.com/
So I was normally playing Minecraft and I decided to disconnect for about 10 minutes or so. Then, when I tried to connect to the server I was previously on, it suddenly takes an incredible amount of time to load, I tried to click cancel after about 5 minutes and Minecraft stopped responding. This now happened on every single server I tried to log into. Any help would be much appreciated.

a lot of ppl are saying its just that the mojang server whatevers are down, explain why it says theres ppl logged into the server and my friend says shes perfectly fine D:

Me too! Like a couple hours ago the Admin just said "rebooting", no big deal and then this started happening to me too. I was all settled in a excited to start playing. I cleaned my hard drive, scanned for malware, updated and rebooted, thinking there was something wrong with my computer. Well if other people are having this problem I'm a little relieved, but it's kind of confusing when all you get is "(Not Responding)". It makes you think: "Uh-oh, something is wrong with my software or something got corrupted. ... Somehow."
