Hello. I am posting this for my friend because he doesn't have an account (Im tech support). He is having a problem with the new launcher that I can't figure out. He is getting the error message "Sorry but we couldn't connect to our servers. " when he logs into the new launcher.
That is the screen. He has typed in his username/password correctly and his firewall is off. Minecraft on the old launcher works.
Oh and please don't say anything like "Its because he has a mac" or "Get a different computer". That is VERY annoying and has nothing to do with the solution.

My specs:
Intel i5 4690k, EVGA GTX 970 SC, 8 gigs of ram, Samsung 840 pro 256 gig SSD, ASUS Sabertooth Mark II Motherboard, Antec 900 Case, WD Black 2 TB Hard Drive.
Does that still happen right now? I've heard other people saying that Mojang's/Minecraft's servers are down sometimes. That could be the case. You can contact Mojang about this if you want, it's probably the best choice.
It isn't the servers being down. I can log on, another friend can log on, but the person with the problem can't log on with the new launcher. It has also been happening since the release of the new launcher.

i have the same exact problem! I am so mad, because i was pulling an all nighter and i stayed up until 6:00. and at about 12:00 or 1:00 i went back on because my friends found a raid on a server, so i opened up minecraft and it went to that weird screen and i tried as hard as i could to fix it but i couldn't fix it. please if anyone has a fix on it, or a way to play multiplayer again please comment on Brandonforty2's post.
I have the same problem too! it has been showing that error for 4 days now and I'm getting very mad! I check the mojang servers are good but when I log on it shows the same thing over and over. And when i go to minecraft's properties its not blocked and my internet is excellent but I still don't know why? if any other players are having same problem please post.
Well when I had this problem, it was caused by a corrupted java install.
Java's ssl libraries were not able to connect to Mojang's authentication servers.
My problem was fixed by uninstalling Java completely, including the control panel applet
and making sure that even the folders java had been in were deleted.
I also deleted the Java Installers I had kept as back ups and downloaded a new one.
If you have a 64bit OS then use the 64bit Java, otherwise get the 32bit version.
Once installed, run the Minecraft Launcher and check the settings for each profile,
make sure they all have the correct path for the new Java installation.
I also have this problem. I was planning to play with one of my close friends and then I got the error, but there was a message below it saying, "(SocketException: Connection reset)"

That probably means that the server could not understand what your java was saying, so it refused a connection.
You can either wait a few hours to see if the server had a problem or you can do what I posted above

A mi me da el error bastante parecido, jugando estaba es 1 Jugador, y se me trabó, lo cerré con Finalizar, y traté de entrar de vuelta, y me decía:
Sorry, but we couldn't connect to our servers.
Please make sure that you are online,
and that Minecraft is not blocked.
