i dont know wahy but when i open the new launcher it opens up as a
1.2.1 launcher witch makes no sense whatsoever so im stumped on this one
i really need help

You need to tell me some more detail. Is it opening minecraft as 1.2.1 or is the launcher it self (the plAce where you sign in) version 1.2.1. If its the game it self opening as 1.2.1 go to the launcher. On the left you will see a drop down menu and below it there is 2 buttons. One says edit profile the other says new profile. Click edit profile and make sure In the middles some where it says minecraft 1.6.2. If not click the drop down menu and select minecraft 1.6.2

no when i download it form the webstite i open it says its the 1.2.1 launcher then it comes to a screen with dirt in the backround
and email and passwordwell u can insert a usename and password

its still doing it its so annoying im might even install linux over windows and try it O-e

This is another way. Go to your .minecraft folder then delete the whole .minecraft and then reinstall the launcher and log in. After you log in close minecraft and see if it changed.

did it already i use to use mineshafter for like 1 year now i just upgraded today to premium

i did thar]t already, i might just reinstall windows cuz im to lazy to figure it out lol

The OP doesn't understand that the launcher has its own version. 1.2.1 is the latest launcher. That launcher is how you play Minecraft 1.6.2 (or any of the retro versions as well now).

i tred to login it does not work

and its not the normal launcher i can only log in it does not have profiles or change versions im rellly despreste i even restored my computer to factory settings

You have to log in successfully first. (Until you log in you only see a log in window)

After you successfully log in you get the window with 4 tabs, the Minecraft News, profile control, etc.

I would like to make a few things clear:

The Launcher Version is completely different versus the game version. Meaning, if the launcher is build 1.2.1, the game version is something completely different. If you look at the title bar, it says "Minecraft Launcher 1.2.1", not "Minecraft 1.6.2"; those are two completely different things.

The "normal launcher", I think you are referring to the previous, obsolete launcher in-which is no longer supported, has little functionality, and will no longer be used - at all. Due to this, it is no longer "normal", but an old "obsolete" launcher.

Now to go into the issue in which you could not login, please verify you are using the proper login credentials. If you are having trouble logging in, make sure you are able to login at the Mojang account login page. If you are unable to do so, you are using the wrong login info and should reset your password here. If it was successful, you should see a page similar to this. If you do not see Minecraft listed, you are either on the wrong account or there was an issue with the transaction of the game. If this is the case, you should make a topic here. Otherwise, please attempt to login again, and if that fails, please let us know of the exact error message it should return to you.
