That would cause too much stress on the game itself, causing performance issues and would inevitably crash.

Retired StaffI personally play with 256MB of RAM allocated out of my 16GB, and get anywhere from 200 to 300 FPS, and generally no lag.
Most of what affects performance in Minecraft is the graphics card, and sometimes the CPU.
