I recently got a new computer (64 bit operating system and 16 gigs of ram) and downloaded Minecraft. I also want to make clear that I have only installed ONE version of Java, and it is the 64 Bit version (7u25). However, when I launch Minecraft and go to my video settings, I am greeted by the red text indicating that I am using a 32 Bit Java version, which cannot be true because such a version does not exist on my machine at present. Additionally, because Minecraft is under the impression that I have 32 Bit Java, I cannot allocate more that 1.5 gigs of ram to the game via the launchers Advanced Java Settings. Please assist however you can. Thanks.

Thank you! That fixed it instantly and the red text is gone. I am indebted to you and whatnot.
