Whenever I play minecraft or even if I have the minecraft client open, my whole OS will freeze randomly. The freezes last about 3 seconds, and they happen anywhere from 0 times per day to 5 times per day.
Like I said, after the freeze I get low fps. It's not really a performance issue, it's more of just a consistent graphical glitch. I'm sorry, its a very unique bug and I have done a lot of googling to no avail.

I am running the latest Kubuntu, and I am 100% sure graphic drivers are up to date.
Restarting minecraft does nothing to fix it.
The minecraft splash screen (with the 3d, rotating background) is laggy, but the settings GUI runs smoothly
The minecraft splash screen has black, glitchy-looking bars at the top of it, and so do some other applications like my Steam library.
All of this goes away when I restart my computer, or just type in
