I know I'm gonna sound like a total scrub posting about this, but today I updated my copy of Minecraft to the latest 1.6.2 and the so called "version" folder is completely missing and nowhere to be found. The reason I'm looking for this folder is because I want to install the newest "Optifine HD B4 Ultra" and I have no idea what to do since every video I've watched says I need the "version" folder to do this.
Here's a print screen of my current .minecraft folder:
Thanks!
P.S.
Sorry if this has already been answered previously. It's late and I found myself too lazy to go through every single post. Haha
You could try making the versions folder yourself if you understand the file structure of it. If not, try re-updating. Hope that helps
If I could understand the file structure, I totally would. Unfortunately, I have not the slightest idea what it looks like. Any videos on YouTube or...?
In the meantime, I'll try re-updating as you suggested. Here's hoping it works! Ha
It has info about the .minecraft folder. The version folder's structure looks like this
Versions
[VERSION]
[VERSION].jar
[VERSION].json
So this says that inside the Versions folder is another folder named 1.6.2 or w/e minecraft version. Inside that 1.6.2 folder is the jar file, and the json file. The json file has some lines of text telling the launcher whether or it's a release or snapshot, plus the version number.
If you have the jar and json file, then this should be what you need to create the versions folder. Hope this works out for you

Well, gosh darn it. I really wish I would have seen this post before I went ahead and downloaded the newest launcher and updates. But the thing is, I'm now having another problem with the "Minecraft 1.2.1 Launcher" not letting me play my copy of Minecraft whatsoever. All I'm getting is a giant button that says "Play Demo" at the bottom.
Here's what that looks like:
Le sigh. So many problems, so little time. Haha
EDIT:
I figured out why it wasn't allowing me to play my game. Unknowingly, I logged into my Minecraft account with my email instead of my actual username.Derp. Boy do I feel like a dunce right now.
Anyways, I'm still trying to figure this out so I will update this post if I resolve my problem or not.
Thanks for the help though! It was greatly appreciated c:
