Title says it all.
I have a Laptop with an 3rd Gen Core i7-3610QM (with Intel HD Graphics 4000) and dedicated graphics, which is a nVidia GT630M 2GB chip. Now recently I noticed my FPS wasn't normal, I then noticed minecraft was not using my dedicated graphics chip.
- I have added relevant java exe's to the nvidia list, setting them to use nvida
- I have tried adding the exes from relevant 32bit and 64bit locations
- I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the latest java (which is java 7 update 25 as of writting)
- I cannot disable the intel graphics as all the video outputs are handled by it, the nvidia solely renders for programs, no display output handling (only because of the way my laptops hardware is setup, which yes is kinda stupid).
- I have updated the graphics drivers for the nvidia and intel
Why do I have 32bit and 64bit java?
- Google Chrome is a 32Bit browser
- I have a 64-bit system
- These java's do not interfere with themselves, when Minecraft is running, it is running in 64bit java (32bit programs in 64bit windows show in the task manager with x86 in brackets).
I will also add Minecraft, in Any Form unmoddified or moddified is also not using the GPU, I'm not sure what else I can do or haven't done, but I have this theory that it is not my system but java, because other games are working fine, using the dedicated graphics.
Please help me if you can, playing on intergrated is ok fps (60-80) but annoying (because I play at 250fps+ normally).
The original Minecraft Launcher uses javaw.exe but MultiMC uses java.exe.
If you didnt change the install location, i would say it's in
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin
While uninstalling, was there any mention of other Java installations present?
Here is the DxDiag Log, and no it didn't, but I checked that manually and also with an online tool on the java site, i definitely only have one 32bit java installation and one 64bit installation.

The original Minecraft Launcher uses javaw.exe but MultiMC uses java.exe.
If you didnt change the install location, i would say it's in
C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin
Very sure that it should trigger the nVidia card. It could be hardware failure.
Oh, and please also make sure to have the laptop plugged into a power supply. Certain machines limit their clock speed if they are not plugged in.
Yes its plugged in. And no its not hardware failure. If you read my first post I mentioned other games a working fine using the dedicated. Also I realize what your telling me to do is attempt to the run the launcher with the GPU, but the game itself is a different process/jar isnt it? That's why they tell you to add javaw.exe and java.exe to the nvidia panel I thought?

It should trigger the GPU never the less of if it's a different process or not. Java just does not scream "high-demand" to various GPUs. In any case, you did not mention if you have added the exception for both 64-bit and 32-bit paths of the Java install. I assume you did, but just making sure here.

I did actually mention that I did in the first post.

I have an Nvidia GeForce 610M that works just fine, here are some settings i use
Anisotropic filtering - Off
Antialiasing FXAA - Off
Antialiasing mode - Override any app setting
Antialiasing setting - 2x
Antialiasing transparency - Off
CUDA GPUs - All
Max pre-rendered frames - 4
Multi-dislaplay/mixed gpu acceleration - Single display performnace
Power management mode - Prefer max performance
Texture filtering quality - Performance
Triple buffering - Off
Vertical Sync - off
Also how do you know it's not running on the nvidia chip?? Low fps doesnt mean the chip is not working
Just to check, download GPU-Z and minimise it,then close any other programs that might be using it and run MC then when playing, go down to your taskbar and search for gpu-z icon, highlight it and it'll show the gpu load

in the nvidia panel theres an option that enables a tray icon, that illuminates when the GPU is in use, also when I hover over it it shows minecraft is not there. Check this screenshots: One is MC not using GPU, one is a different game using the GPU.

did the GPU Z as well anyway, will note, GPU icon illuminated because it dectected interaction from GPU-Z minecraft wasnt using it.
Not really sure what is your issue now then. But also make sure vSync isn't on in the settings, or in Minecraft's settings.
No I don't use vsync at all, personally I dont like vsync.Update: It's definitely Java, because another game I play, Starmade, also uses Java and will not use the GPU. Any advice on how I can further confirm this?
The Toshiba's have had a history of not using discrete graphics when an Open GL game runs. Both Minecraft and starmade are Open GL games. Some Toshiba's had a means of forcing the discrete graphics to be used.

Mine was working fine up until recently, but I wouldn't blame Toshiba, because in a technical sense the same situation can happen to anyone regardless of brand's history.

Here's something interesting. I decided to see if it would make any difference using the .jar launcher file rather than .exe. The results were interesting. It was using 32bit java and it was using the GPU. Now that got me thinking, why is it not triggering for 64bit? I don't even have the 32bit exe's in the nvidia panel and its automatically working... what the heck?

And only install the 64-bit version, what does it do then?
Used the software, removed both Java's, re-installed only 64 bit java as you said to do, 64 bit still wont use the GPU, yes I've re-added the java and javaw exe's back to the nvidia panel.

Retired StaffGrab this for the Intel one,
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22842&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers
Grab this for the nVidia one,
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win8-win7-64bit-320.49-whql-driver.html
---
When running Minecraft, right click on the icon/shortcut, select "Run with graphics processor" then select "High-performance nVidia processor".
Ok so the nvidia was already on that update, intel has been updated, tried the right click run with nvidia, still not using the GPU.

Retired StaffVery sure that it should trigger the nVidia card.

Retired StaffIt should trigger the GPU never the less of if it's a different process or not. Java just does not scream "high-demand" to various GPUs. In any case, you did not mention if you have added the exception for both 64-bit and 32-bit paths of the Java install. I assume you did, but just making sure here.
I did actually mention that I did in the first post.

Retired StaffNot really sure what is your issue now then. But also make sure vSync isn't on in the settings, or in Minecraft's settings.
Anisotropic filtering - Off
Antialiasing FXAA - Off
Antialiasing mode - Override any app setting
Antialiasing setting - 2x
Antialiasing transparency - Off
CUDA GPUs - All
Max pre-rendered frames - 4
Multi-dislaplay/mixed gpu acceleration - Single display performnace
Power management mode - Prefer max performance
Texture filtering quality - Performance
Triple buffering - Off
Vertical Sync - off
Also how do you know it's not running on the nvidia chip?? Low fps doesnt mean the chip is not working
Just to check, download GPU-Z and minimise it,then close any other programs that might be using it and run MC then when playing, go down to your taskbar and search for gpu-z icon, highlight it and it'll show the gpu load
CHECK OUT THE AORUS X7! THINNEST,POWERFUL LAPTOP WITH DUAL GTX 765M http://www.aorus.com/x7.aspx
in the nvidia panel theres an option that enables a tray icon, that illuminates when the GPU is in use, also when I hover over it it shows minecraft is not there. Check this screenshots: One is MC not using GPU, one is a different game using the GPU.
did the GPU Z as well anyway, will note, GPU icon illuminated because it dectected interaction from GPU-Z minecraft wasnt using it.

Retired StaffIt may mean that Java is somehow incorrectly installed. Use JavaRA to remove Java,
http://singularlabs.com/software/javara/
And only install the 64-bit version, what does it do then?
Used the software, removed both Java's, re-installed only 64 bit java as you said to do, 64 bit still wont use the GPU, yes I've re-added the java and javaw exe's back to the nvidia panel.
