Hello everyone, i was wondering if anyone was haveing the same problem. I have my minecraft allocated with 3 gb of ram and i'm only getting 10-30 fps. I have all my settings optimized: fast graphics, no smooth lighting particles off, vsync off, advanced open GL off, max fps setting, rendering distance on normal, view bobbing off, and i'm not running a texture/resource pack. The problem i'm haveing about it though is that it says it's not using all of the RAM it has allocated. if it's set at max FPS it should give me max FPS. i even tried setting FPS limit in the options folder to 500 so it would try for that and i'm still only getting 10-30 fps. HELP ME!!!! please reply
Most people seem to not realize this, but allocating more RAM won't solve your low FPS problem. If you have money, buy a dedicated graphics card from either AMD or NVidia. (did I spell that correctly?) Also try installing optifine and lowering your render distance.

First off, welcome to the Minecraft Forums! Anyways...
You can't just tell Minecraft to "run better" because you changed a few settings. It's dependent on your computer. We'll be able to help better if you post your full system specs.
A common misconception is that Minecraft needs a lot of RAM to run, which actually isn't the case.
If you want a quick fix to get a few extra frames:
"rendering distance on normal," is NOT optimized. Set it to "Tiny" if needed. Then, you can install Optifine. Optifine gives you a lot more video settings, and boosts your FPS a lot. Sp614x also has a few tips to boost performance at the end of his Optifine thread. Lastly, you can update your Java.
To update your Java, uninstall all older versions. Then go to the Java downloads, and download the latest version. If you use a 32 bit computer, download the x86 installer. If you use a 64 bit computer, download only 64 bit Java. You can find what type of Windows (32 or 64 bit) you run by right clicking "My Computer," and clicking "Properties."

EDIT:
Buying a new graphics card won't necessarily help him either.
thank you very much i just allocated 350mgs and without changing any settings it's already better, i'm currently installing optifine right now!

Thank you also, but i have hardly any money so i won't being buying a new graphics card until i need a new computer
Wait, how do I lower the amount of Memory allocated?
1. Open launcher
2. Click "Edit Profile"
3. Check "JVM Arguments"
4. In the omnibox next to "JVM Arguments", it should say "-Xmx1G", (without the quotation marks) which is 1 gigabyte. If you want to lower the amount, to say, 512MB, you would change the "-Xmx1G" to "-Xmx512M".
I believe Minecraft uses around 350MB on default settings, so try not to go lower than 400MB.
