It sounds like the game has crashed trying to load the world, so look in your crash-reports folder to see if there is a log. Otherwise, see if you can open another world.
If you can't find them, use this file. As it's loading, wait until it doesn't look like anything else it going to pop up in the terminal window, then close minecraft. The file should tell you what to do.
Your world, or part of it, might be corrupt. You can try repairing it with MCEdit. To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.
With Minecraft closed, open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit. Load up Minecraft and see if the world will now load.
