When I first download minecraft on my new computer (PC w/ Windows 8) I attempted to go into my .minecraft folder then bin so I can install a mod. However, It was not there and the first file was 'assets'. I then attempted to search for my bin folder through Run and usual means. No luck. I decided to delete minecraft and re install it hoping it will bring back all the folders *Note: I tried the .jar . exe and even tried to see if v1.5.2 would fix anything. I was shocked when the amount of folders in my .minecraft was actual decreased by most likely half. The only thing in it is 'assets' 'versions' 'launcher' and two more other files. Now I can't even install texture packs. Solutions anyone??
Minecraft 1.6 was introduced alongside a new launcher which changed numerous things.
The new launcher uses a new file system, and no longer stores it's files in one "bin" and "resources" folder, and organizes it much more compact in "assets", "libraries", "launcher", "versions", "resource packs".
If you are not aware, texture packs no longer exist and have been replaced with 'Resource Packs'.
Modding also is different, but you can find more on how to mod by viewing this topic, part #4.
