I recently bought my nephew a copy of Minecraft, and went over to his house to help him set it up.
I immediately noticed a very strange bug was happening, and I have yet to find any answers on the internet.
The chat simply does not display anything that is being typed either by himself, or anyone else. It doesn't even display the chat in the single player games. He can open the chat system with T, type messages, and everyone else can read those messages he types, but he cannot see his own or anyone else's messages.
Before you answer, the multiplayer>chat setting is set to Shown. I have even set it to hidden, which removed the function of the T button all together, and then put the chat back to Shown, but it still wont show anything that is in the chat.
I am at a loss as to how to fix this issue. I want to be able to play online with him in my private server, but I simply cannot communicate to him without the use of Signs in game, which is incredible frustrating. He is using a very old laptop that can run the game, but cannot run anything else at the same time, so Skype is not an option as an alternative for communication means. It would simply be best to have his Chat Log visible, but I can't figure out what's wrong in the first place.
Please, can someone help me discover how to fix this issue, I want to be able to chat back and forth with him, but at this rate, only I will be able to read what he types to me, but he cannot even read his own messages once he presses the Enter button.
I think i found a fix to it. My problem sounded the same but i think it was a permissions plugin doing it. I ranked myself to a different rank then put myself back to my original rank and i was able to see my chat again.

How did you do that? Because I'm having the same bug.
