recently I've been wanting to mod Minecraft and everything goes perfect until I need minecraft.jar I'm using Windows Vista and WinRAR. What am I doing wrong!?!?!?!?!?!
What you are doing wrong is that you cannot find it.
You told me your OS so here we go. Bring up the "run" Control + R (I think)
If not use Vista search box in the Start.
Now type: %appdata% find a folder in there called .minecraft.
Now it is in versions (bin on 1.5.x or earlier)
Even better use MCPatcher
as it will install the mods for you
Now a few extra things:
Windows Vista: Maybe consider upgrading to 7 as it is much better in my opinion. Or even downgrading to 2000 or XP would be a huge step. WinRAR: Consider using 7Zip instead since all features are free and it supports much more.
In the .minecraft, there is no longer a "bin" folder or a "minecraft.jar", this is due to the new API Mojang is/was working on, instead, there is a folder named "versions". This is a new system that lets you make your own minecraft versions and install them with a click of a button anytime you want.
Here's a video explaining the new launcher:
Hope it helps.
EDIT: I don't mean to copy anybody, there were zero posts when I started typing.
