SYSTEM SPECS & RELEVANT INFO:
I'm in the United States
2010 MacBook Pro, OS X Lion 10.7.5
Java 1.6.0_4; 64-Bit
Security Settings: Allow Applications Downloaded from: Anywhere
Parental Controls: None
BACKGROUND:
I bought an earlier version of Mine Craft on April 23 of this year.
I think it was version 1.5.2.
My child's been using it off-line only. No mods. Very happy with it.
Yesterday, I tried to upgrade to version 1.6.2.
THE NEW LAUNCHER 1.1.2
1. Downloaded new launcher first.
2. When I dragged the Mine Craft icon onto the Applications folder icon (in the Disk Image window), it asked me if I wanted to replace the current copy. I said yes.
3. It warned me that it cannot do so.
4. Assuming the old version was to blame, I manually deleted the old Mine Craft file in my Applications folder, and then dragged the new one in from the disk image window.
5. It seemed to have worked.
6. I double clicked on the icon.
7. The new Launcher 1.1.2 opened (after showing some command-line code for a while first).
8. But where it should say "Play", it says "Play Demo" instead.
VERSION 1.6.2
1. Went to Minecraft.net and clicked: "Already bought the game? Download it here."
2. It took me to the download page, where I clicked on: "Minecraft.dmg"
3. But no matter how many times I tried, it keeps downloading the demo only, not the actual game.
4. When I log into the site, it only offers me the options to buy, or play the demo.
SO I GAVE UP, AND TRIED TO PURCHASE MINECRAFT FOR A SECOND TIME
1. I log in at Minecraft.net.
2. I click on "BUY NOW!"
3. I click on "Buy MineCraft for this Account"
4. It shows me my account details, plus the price in US dollars.
5. I choose to pay by VISA (just like before).
6. I click on "Proceed To Payment Details"
7. I get: "Process Cancelled" "Your checkout process has been cancelled." Return to your account?
8. I do not use PayPal - I use VISA.
9. I called my credit card company - they say my card is in good standing, and they have received no recent payment requests from Mojang.
TWO QUESTIONS:
What more can I do get MinceCraft 1.6.2 working on my machine?
AND
Why won't Mojang process my attempt to purchase with VISA?
It turns out my previous purchase (of April, 2013) never "went through" so that Mojang received no money. However, somehow, I still got the full version 1.5.2! Which made me assume that everything was OK.
Today, when I realized my credit card was never actually charged for this, I felt good about initiating another purchase. This time everything went well (and I actually have a Transaction ID now).
As to why it said "Process Cancelled" when I tried to purchase before: I had third-party cookies disabled. Re-enabling third-party cookies allowed the transaction to take place. (How many entities feed at the Minecraft trough!)

Version 1.6.2 works perfectly now.
