I use a mac and play minecraft, recently, I realized that my skin was not showing in game. I didn't think much of it, but on my external drive I grabbed a vanilla 1.2 minecraft.jar. I replaced the jar, ran minecraft, and poof! my skin works! I tried all the versions after 1.2, and all of them gave me the default skin. I tried 1.6.2, and to no avail. Does anyone know a solution, and yes I have deleted my ENTIRE minecraft folder, and still nothing. Does anyone know a solution?
Somewhere in between those versions Mojang switched the skin server. The new "server" is part of the amazon cloud and it has been flaky since day one. Not all the machines in the server pool appear to actually have access to the most recently uploaded skins. So depending upon which server you get pseudo-randomly assigned to you may or may not see your skin. And for multiplayer, the other players may or may not see your skin and it may only affect some of them.
