When I play on a server I can play for 1-5 min before i crash with the error of "Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed"
I believe this error could be unrelated to Minecraft. And caused by your internet.
Lets start with rebooting your computer and router.
I need some information before we can continue beyond that. 1. What operating system are you using? 2. Are you connected to the internet via wireless, or through an Ethernet cable? 3. Are you using any sort of proxy to access the internet?
1. Hold down the Windows Key and R to bring up the Run dialog. 2. Copy and paste the code below into it and click Ok 3. This will create a file named Debug.txt on your desktop, copy and paste the contents of that file into a reply.
1. Hold down the Windows Key and R to bring up the Run dialog. 2. Type in: devmgmt.msc and click Ok. 3. Expand the Network adapters category. 4. Right click on Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and click Uninstall 5. A dialog will pop up. If there is an option that says Delete the driver software for this device. check that. Then click OK. 6. Reboot your computer. Windows should reinstall your network driver.
After you have done that, run this Microsoft Fixit, and this one.
Those will reset your TCP/IP stack and Winsock.
If you continue to have problems we'll try diagnosing your router for connectivity issues.
I should have had you download the driver from the internet before I had you uninstall your old one.
If you can give me your specific motherboard model, I could locate the driver for you.
You could then download it on your laptop, put it on a flash drive, and install it on your desktop.
