My cousin is having difficulty moving items from within her inventory. We both have our own copies of Minecraft and I informed her that that is not supposed to happen. She just installed the new installer and is using 1.6.2. The basic problem is that when she clicks an item in her inventory, nothing happens. To move an item she must hold down left click and drag to the place that she wants to put it. This makes crafting (among other things) very aggravating. I have tried this out myself and confirmed. It is very confusing. Splitting stacks is the only way to craft and that has to be done by holding down right click.
I don't know why this is happening, but we are open to suggestions as to how to fix it.
