Golden Apple Bug

I am running v1.6.2 on Mac OS 10.6.8. I cannot craft a golden apple. I have double checked my recipe but nothing appears in the item box to grab. I wonder if there are any known bugs with this. I have search and can find nothing

No i am using one red apple surrounded by 8 gold nuggets and nothing..

Yes that was it. I was not aware of the change. I assume it was a recent one since all my references still use the old recipe...
