Hi guys. I was recently working on a build in my Survival Single Player world when a fuse in my house blew and the power to my PC went out. Upon booting up again and entering the world, it appears as though the chunks I was working on at the time have become corrupted. I had a lot of FPS lag and none of my actions seemed to affect the world. E.g. placed blocks disappeared, broken blocks did not enter my inventory, etc. All the while I noticed Minecraft's CPU usage going higher and higher until it crashed.
This same issue is now occurring every time I enter this world (the "Downloading Terrain" appears for a very long time too). I have Rei's Minimap installed (but no other mods) and I've noticed that only the same 5 chunks around me load each time, and no others load.
I am running 1.6.2 (but the world was created in 1.5). My Minecraft is vanilla except for Rei's Minimap (which I am sure is not an issue). I would like to know if it is possible to recover my world including the corrupted chunks. Thanks.
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.

Thanks for the response. I forgot to mention that this was the first thing I tried upon first searching for solutions. I've just given it another go and it hasn't solved the issue. Are there any other things I can try?
I have some further information. A Reddit user attempted to fix my world by converting it to Creative, then back to Survival again. Upon entering the world, things looked optimistic as some chunks around me started loading very slowly (an improvement), but my interactions with the world were all very laggy. The only things that seemed to work as intended were doors and trapdoors.
The interesting part is that after waiting a while for the chunks around me to load, I've noticed in the debug screen that 20,000 entities spawn instantaneously (even on Peaceful difficulty). Following that, Java's CPU usage escalates until it eventually crashes.
A look in MCEdit doesn't seem to reveal any spots with a large amount of entities... but that may be because the world isn't saving properly when the entities do spawn.
Hopefully this further information can help someone diagnose my problem?
may i know how you removed the entities the same thing just happened to my save i found the chunk with the massive entities spawn and i select them and try to remove them but it doesnt i even deleted the chunk and the entities are still there
Hop i found all bugs. (Short play testing looks nice and smooth)
Btw good luck with u giant tree. .-)

Some times u have to do the remove entities procedure 2-3 times. (join the map after every try with MC.)
Some times u have to remove near bye chunks to(entities spawn not all time in the same chunk like the defect chunk)
If u want i can try to fix it for u. Upload to Filehoster and give the link.

I've noticed that at some point 20,000 entities spawn instantaneously, even on Peaceful difficulty. Maybe this is what is causing the lag?

In MC-Edit it can be tricky to found massive entity spots.
Thanks for offering to fix it, link is below:

It worked! Thank you so much Ritter for taking the time to figure it out, I'm so glad to have my world back. Really appreciate it!

If the base not to big and u have not to many underground tunnel or railroads u can move all u want with MC-Edit to other maps.
I do it my self 1-2 times, on an grief t server to have my home tower on my one server.
