I did everything I could find to fix it an nothing worked:
* command prompt: netsh winsock reset -- did it
* delete minecraft current version and force update -- did it
* I turn off the firewall. I was using the basic mcaffe firewall that came with the new computer. I deleted that and put on avg, but in between the reinstall I tested minecraft. still gave me the error. so then I put on avg. I am running the basic windows firewall. tested it on and off no luck.
the one thing I didn't do was I seen some fixes tell me to delete the minecraft.jar. problem is, in this windows 8 I open the .minecraft directory and I see no bin directory so there is no minecraft.jar file that I can find. where is it?
thing is I have another windows 7 computer on this network, this error never happened over there. I reset the router and that did nothing
I still get the error.
this is a common error, is there no solution out there that is real?
I still need to know why I don't see my bin folder in .minecraft, any answers on that?
thank you
