Not sure if this is the right place to post, if not, I'm sorry. I'm trying to download texture packs for my son - I've googled, been to myriad forums and am having no luck. It appears each site I attempt to download a texture pack mod from has me also download a download manager. I do not want the manager - my Norton security and malware software goes bonkers, and from what I understand, I only need the file itself. Can someone please help? He's crazy about Minecraft and plays it incessantly on the Xbox, I purchased Minecraft for the PC expressly to be able to get mods for him. BTW, we are running Win8 on the PC. Thanks in advance and a million thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
Norton is particularly notorious for causing havoc with Minecraft-- I would suggest using a different antivirus for the time being. Also, the need for a download manager is a bit silly, since all you really need to do is extract and/ or drag and drop certain files to the resourcepacks folder.
If you're attempting to download resource packs from different websites other than Minecraft Forum or Planet Minecraft, you're likely downloading from a non-trusted site, and who knows what's behind those downloads...
You can download resource packs on the Forums by clicking here
I'm unsure of where you are finding resource packs needing the use of a download manager, I haven't come across any like that. However they certainly are not safe to download, so I am glad you have stayed away from them =)
On Minecraft Forum, if you go to the Texture and Resource Pack section you will find many resource packs, each of which is a safe download for the file itself, without any managers. Personally for your son, I would look out for some of the more popular resource packs by checking how many views (and downloads if available) the thread has.
Thanks to you both! And, yes, some of the sites were rather sketchy and I'm not in the mood to have a Hijack This kinda adventure to fix whatever crap I'm inviting into my PC. I'll come up w/something other than Norton, too. I do appreciate the help and all the links. I will definitely get him the Wind Waker and the other suggesteds

Some I personally like the most would be PureBDCraft, Ovo's Rustic Pack, and of course my own Wind Waker pack ;3
Hope this helps and you find a great resource pack for your son =)
