So hey guys. I'm a first time poster and I'm having some sort of bug with my enchantment table as you can see. It used ti work and go all the way up to level 30, and now it usually tops out at 12 but sometimes goes highest to 17. I have all the bookcases around it and it used to work. It started only going up to 12 when i updated my mine craft. I've tried chopping down all the bookcases. Then re crafting them and putting them back down, but still nothing. I even swapped over to /gamemode 1 and rebuilt the entire room with enchantment table and everything, but nothing changed. I assume its some sort of bug, but I don't know what to do. Please help me out guys, I know you guys are awesome and help out alot people! Much appreciated! -Jake

I have also seen this happening in my game. Before the 1.6 update, a maxed out table would regularly have lvl 30 enchants. Now I have a maxed out table and the highest I see (after about an hour of picking up a diamond pickaxe and putting it back down) is lvl 17. I had 30 levels stored to max the pickaxe out too. If the Enchantment Mechanics on Wiki are correct, It is as if the table is only utilizing 6 bookshelves out of the now 32 i have around it in a 5x5 with roof and corners covered.

Even after replacing everything Still only getting average of lvl 12 in bottom slot with a rare high of 17. No 18-30 after 1 hour of placeing diamond/stone pickaxes. *enchant table in middle, nothing in 3x3 and a 3 high stack of books in 5x5 with one spot open to enter/exit. Floor is all wood, roof is all wood at 4 high*

I got the table to go to 30 at a different location. I built one on land and went right up to 30 no probl. My previous table was built on my Oil Rig at about Y=103Issue resolved. I had 4 torches in the 3x3 corners to light the room. Apparently Torches somehow block bookcases. Removed 4 torches and got maxed Enchant Table at my original site.
