Ok, I was going to attach a screenshot of what my problem is but it won't work.
I recently bought and downloaded minecraft for my MacBook Pro. I play mostly on my Xbox though, but my boyfriend is bugging me to play with him on the computer version.
Anyway, I don't have internet at my new apartment, and won't be getting it for a long time (it's super expensive in my area for the speeds I need). Anyway, so I am content to play offline and single player until I get internet. I will play multiplayer when I am at the library like I am now to type this up.
Ok so my problem:
I downloaded it and logged in through the launcher. At this point I am connected to internet at the library.
I created a test world to familiarize myself with the pc controls and to use it to test the offline play.
So I log out, turn of the wifi connection, and open the launcher back up, put in my username (email address) and password. A message pops up saying I have the wrong username or password and it can't log in. It also says this on one of the tabs on the launcher
"Trying to log in...
Logging in with username & password
Could not log in: Cannot contact authentication server"
I know for a fact I typed my password in correctly and the username is correct because everything is the same from when I had the wifi connection.
I retyped everything and it still said I had a wrong username or password. So I connected the wifi again and it logged me in without changing anything in those areas.
I have checked everywhere online for this and nothing works. Every forum I've checked says once you log in once with a wifi/internet connection and play shortly and log out, you should be able to log in without the connection as long as you have it purchased and downloaded.
I'm not quite sure what's going on, because I want to play on my laptop as well as my xbox but it won't let me play offline. It doesn't even show me a play offline option when I try to log in.

We all make choices. But in the end, our choices make us.
When you are next able to login, do so. When you've finished, close Minecraft and the launcher but do not logout.
Next time you start, it will say it can't connect to the authentication servers, but it will give you a 'Play Offline' button.
Things to check:
1. System time
2. Uninstall and reinstall Java
3. Your Windows username does not have a ! in it (i.e C:/Users/CoolBeans!/things) breaks Java, which in turn breaks Minecraft. You'll need to create a new Windows user in this case.

I am going back to the library today so I will try this. Thanks! Also to the other user, I don't run Windows, as I stated I am on a Mac to play Minecraft, but on my phone now to post haha

So I am at the library once again, trying to log in. I logged in and opened minecraft. Played around a little in that test world I made. I save and quit the game, and it took me to the launch screen. I closed the launcher but did not log out. I turned off the wifi connection and started up the launcher and it asked me to log in, no play offline button.

I will mention that in general when I was having trouble finding my password I did at one point see the play offline button but it was greyed out and then the launcher forced quit. I have no idea what got me to that point though.

I own the game, I wish to play it offline.
