This has happened twice since yesterday: I tried to start a new world and it just kept saying, "Loading world, converting world." Yesterday, it just kept saying, "Loading world, building terrain." It's been like that for about ten minutes now. It's not even letting me close out of Minecraft! What's causing that?
Did you installed mod prior to that? It could have an effect. I would recommend you to delete the .minecraft folder (back-up your world!) and try again, that way it will take away any "leftover file" that a mod that you installed would conflict the game.
Try doing what The_Surviv0r said, and if that doesn't work, then you should try Force Updating, or maybe contacting Mojang's help desk if the problem persists. You might have to re-download Minecraft.
If you are using NEI (Not Enough Items) mod, this is a bug where you cannot go into your world or start a world. You have to download the right version of Forge. I don't remember which one it was, I just did trial and error. That's how I fixed it.

Or instead, of deleting your entire Minecraft folder, you can try just deleting the minecraft.jar.
If you don't have any mods just try deleting to .jar folder inside your bin inside of the .minecraft folder then try running Minecraft again. When did this start happening? If that fails then just backup your worlds, delete the .minecraft folder, delete the Minecraft application and redownload Minecraft.
Have you had any mods in the past? Or is it a very old world?
I've had Minecraft since March, but none of the worlds are original.A couple days ago, I tried to download a mod, but it didn't work because I have 1.6.2. If I really have to re-download Minecraft, will it cost money?
You don't need to pay to reinstall it, just delete the specific version you installed the mod on (should be called "1.6.2", inside a "versions" folder) and it should reinstall automatically.
When I tried to download the mod (Elemental Creepers), it gave me pictures of the Creepers. I don't have any actual mods. That shouldn't affect my game. I accidentally downloaded a toolbar once, and I don't think your computer affects Minecraft, unless you count lag. Should I still re-install it, or is there a different solution?
P.S. It still says "Loading world, converting world," and it's been hours.

Curse PremiumIf you aren't using mods, I have no idea.

Useless things, the concept of our minds.
What's the .minecraft.jar?
