The new minecraft folder has me all turned around. Anyone know where the default textures are stored and how to change them WITHOUT screwing around with resource packs? I tried using the normal method on the .jar located in the versions folder, but when I tried to launch it minecraft wouldn't start. The last line of the launcher was "Loaded with 1 error!" or something like that.
Also, you only resource packs can change textures now. Jar edits usually end with the vanilla texture being reinstalled over the edited one, or in your case a crash.
I also tried using a resource pack. I downloaded a resource pack and changed the textures I wanted changed. When I started minecraft and loaded the pack, everything loaded fine except for the two textures I changed (diamond sword and diamond axe), which appeared as purple and black tiles.
I am on a mac (Phrique yeah.)
Thanks!

Curse PremiumFollow that string of folders in the jar.
