i have the same problem and I have avast as antivirus

I have this problem as well as when i try to join servers java.net.socketexception permissions denied: connect (This is when i put more ram into minecraft)

Everyone seems to be having this same issue. No one is offering a solution. That being said, I'm also having the same issue. I would love it if someone could find a fix for it.

Edit: I did some more googling around and found something that may work for some people here (http://help.mojang.com/customer/portal/articles/928803-minecraft-download-stops)

I had the same problem as you guys, then I re installed java and it worked. Google java and download it, it worked for me

Yea that doesnt work you need to actuall uninstall your antivirus software then you can use it OR you can just download this and use this (it is an alternate minecraft launcher!!!) http://multimc.org/

i have to buy dll full package to get the right files for your starter
