Turn particle effects off/lowest setting.
Smooth lighting all the way down.
Graphics to fast.If that fails here's a link for some .class files that will remove the glow for the time being: http://www.mediafire.com/?d6hg9b08a467z5c
Just put that into your .jar.

So i'm playing minecraft I run it around 60-80 FPS. Problem is that when I hold an enchanted sword or anything with the glow around it I drop to 20-30 FPS. Is there any way to take out the glow or will adding more RAM to minecraft help?
You posted this question before... Try not to post duplicate topics. I listed all the possible solutions that could be used your best bet, like I said would be removing glow from the items
Try Optifine.

its weird..... i have the same problem too, i originally have around 35 fps using optifine with every single possible video setting either fast or off. plus, i play on short +16, graphics=fast as well, and i have all my animations off..... still, even when i do get 35 fps, holding/seeing anything enchanted such as a diamond enchanted sword, i get about a 15-25 fps drop which leaves me to around 10-25... sometimes it gives me a 30 fps drop..... i find this a bit unusual since it didnt happen to me in 1.5.2, and i still dont see any patterns besides anything enchanted.

I like the glow. And I usually play on PVP servers. So it's nice to know when the other person has enchanted armor, sword etc.
Other than that you won't find many other solutions.
