So on the 24th of June I got my new Windows 8 Laptop (Dell). It ran Minecraft 1.5.2 beautifully. Over 60 frames with normal render distance and 20 mods and no Optifine. When 1.6 came out with the new launcher on the first of July, I was really excited. I played it on the day I got it. But I noticed a problem, my Minecraft was getting 15 frames, with no mods and normal render distance. When I put my Minecraft's render distance on tiny, I only got 30 frames. Am I the only one that gets a lower frame rate for 1.6? I have 4 gigabytes of ram and 245 gigabytes of memory on my hard drive (unused). Even with Optifine I still get a slow frame rate. I've tried many ways to speed it up, like installing 64 bit java on my computer (64 bit) and allocating more memory, but they only make it faster by only a few frames. Is my computer getting slower already, or is it Minecraft?
Ever noticed how a mod like Mo' Creatures, or anything that adds a lot of content or features, can decrease FPS? Think of it like that, only it's now built into MC. I lost the ability to play many updates ago, my POS just can't handle it anymore. Make sure to get Optifine as soon as you can. Your computer is fine. I'm unsure how much is still relevant here, http://www.minecraft...on-mar-14-2013/, but it may be worth a shot.
Edit- Maybe one of the bugfix updates may increase FPS a little. Never know.

Broken Miracle, thanks for replying. But I tried all of those things from the link you gave me. But my minecraft doesn't go any faster. I'm finally ready to use money to speed up my minecraft. I want to buy a better graphics card to speed it up. I don't know much about computers, so I need a little bit of an explanation. I also don't know how much a good graphics card costs, but i'm only looking to speed minecraft up to 60-75 frames. I'd like something around $100? ( I'm not rich).

Won't happen, seeing that it's a laptop. Have you ever seen a graphics card? High-end cards are thicker than a typical laptop, and even low end cards can't fit in, not just because of size, but because laptops usually lack the connections needed.
However, fm87 informed me of something else you can do: set the CPU power state. Most people have the minimum on 0%, and in that case, it will limit the integrated graphics (if you have it). Go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Power Options>Under the High Performance plan, Change plan settings>Changed advanced power settings, scroll down and find Processor power management, and change both Minimum processor state and Maximum processor state to 100%.
I'm having the same problem as you, bananaman. I bought a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad laptop not even two weeks ago and it ran Minecraft on fairly high settings at 50-60 FPS without OptiFine or any mods perfectly fine. But once 1.6 came out, my game has slowed to about 15-20 FPS unless I put it on tiny render distance. Optifine hasn't helped at all with FPS, which is strange. I'm hoping that this is a bug or something, but BrokenMiracle's explanation seems to make the most sense. If I find anything out about this, I'll post on this thread again so that you can know and see if it helps you.
I just realized something new, which would apply to you if you have a laptop Nvidia graphics card.
The new launcher for Minecraft 1.6 is automatically ID'ed as a graphics-unintensive program by Nvidia's drivers, so it will launch with the CPU integrated graphics. (Nvidia allows dynamic switching between the dGPU and the iGPU through Optimus.) Unfortunately, that means that anything launched through that launcher will also use the integrated GPU, which means, of course, Minecraft itself. To solve that, simply go into the Nvidia control panel and change the setting for that application (Minecraft.exe) to always launch with "High performance Nvidia processor". Or, if you don't want to do that or just want to test first, right click on Minecraft.exe, hover over "Run with graphics processor", and click "High performance Nvidia processor".
This only applies to people with Nvidia GPUs. If you don't, I'll keep digging, but I can't help much right now.

Thanks! But I don't have an NVidia graphics card. I'm actually surprised that people are actually helping me! If you find something, make sure to tell me. Thanks!
I love all these idiots who just go buy a random laptop and hope it can run Minecraft.
Minecraft may look like crap, but it certainly runs like it too. You need a half decent GPU and integrated (minus APUs) just won't really cut it anymore unless you like the default resolution.

Then do you have an AMD card, and AMD APU, or an Intel iGPU? I believe AMD cards are in a similar situation with their Hybrid Graphics feature.

I think this will end the stream of comments and replies on this thread. Ever since the new launchers started coming out (1.12, 1.1.3) My minecraft has started getting faster by tiny bits. But my minecraft tripled and quadrupled in fps when I deleted my .minecraft and got a new one (by starting the launcher up and logging in). Usually I get 15 ( or less) frames on normal render distance before I did this. After this, I got 35,40,45,50,55,60.Also, razer game booster and smooth lighting also helped me achieve this. I recommend trying this and good luck to all. I will no longer be replying to this thread. Thanks for your help guys and goodbye!

And we might break up if I don't wake up to the sun.

The heatsink and cooling solution are both considered part of the card. The part that isn't thick is the PCB, but that's not the whole card.

If newer Minecraft updates would kill your computer you must be living in 2003 or so.
