I tried the method of adding more ram to the Minecraft launcher. I went to "Edit Profile", then "Advanced Java Settings" and I changed the settings from 1G to 1500m (1G and a half).
However Minecraft still showed that I had 24% allocated to Minecraft and it crashed again. How can I change this so that Minecraft runs 50% of the 989MB that I have available?
I have a HP Media Center that runs Windows XP 32-bit version.
Well If Your Trying To Use More Then What You Have It Simply Won't Work. A Good Method For A Situation Like This Is To Do The Following: When Minecraft Is Open Using Its 50% Of RAM Push The Keys CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and Go To The Proccesses Tab and Find Javaw Proccess. Right Click It and Click Set Priority and Set It To High. This Will Max Out How Much Of That 1 Gig Minecraft Uses To Be As Much Of It As Possible!

You can't force it to use memory that it doesn't need.
