I've just downloaded MC 1.6.1 and am having a couple of major issues with it. I'm a bit of a noob, so please pardon if these are overly simple issues.
Setup:
Mac OS 10.6.8
Java 16 for OSX
PROBLEM 1:
I'm running Minecraft in two user logins on my Mac. I keep the main application in the parent directory and have a separate login for my son to use. After downloading MC 1.6.1 (with MCLauncher 1.0.1) I attempted to open it in my son's login. It would not open and I received the following error:
--
Downloading: https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/launcher.pack.lzma (try 10/10)
Exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake
Recognized exception: the likely cause is a set of broken/missing root-certificates. Check your java install and perhaps reinstall it.
Unable to download remote file. Check your internet connection/proxy settings.
FATAL ERROR: net.minecraft.bootstrap.FatalBootstrapError: Unable to download while being forced

Please fix the error and restart.

Now, when I run MCLauncher (it shows version 1.0.8) in the parent login, it successfully launches, so perhaps there is an issue with having the son's login properly access the application in the parent's application folder. If so, I can't figure out what it is.
PROBLEM 2:
When I do successfully open MC1.6.1 in the parent directory, none of the previously created worlds show up. The only option in Singleplayer mode is Create New World.
I assume that these two issues are linked somehow, but I just can't figure out how to resolve them.
Any help provided will be most greatly appreciated.

Called in TechSupport (the wife) who had a similar but separate issue with Parental Controls. It turns out that the Parental Controls on Safari had prevented the Launcher from accessing the minecraft.net site to grab one file. It hadn't occurred to me that the Launcher needed to update in each of our separate logins, when the minecraft file was hosted in the parent directory.
We temporarily opened Parental Controls to all sites, did the download via Launcher, and it opened up just as it should. Once the correct complete Launcher was opened, Minecraft 1.6.1 was able to access all previously created worlds.
