I can't open my minecraft 1.6.1 launcher.
I was told to show this from my hosts file.

Can you please post a screenshot or a copy of the "bootstrap error"? Also what operating system are you using?
Edit: I've been reading about this "bootstrap" error try removing and installing the correct version of java for your operating system. Also remove any old versions of java as well. (make sure if you have 64bit windows to install the 64bit version)

Yeah try doing what I said in my edit to my post and let me know if that works for you.
Did you uninstall java and install the correct version for your operating system? Also what is telling you to check your proxy settings?
the report says check your Internet connection/proxy settings. And I have a 32 bit system and I'm pretty sure I got the 32 bit java but if u could give me another link that is valid and reliable that would be great.

Close the launcher and all other java applications
Press and hold the windows key, then press the R key, then release (i.e. press Win + R).
This causes the Run dialog to appear (bottom left).
Copy and paste the following command into the Run dialog:
setx _JAVA_OPTIONS -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
Press OK.
You may see a black screen appear and disappear very quickly.
Afterwards start the launcher and enjoy the game
it didn't work. The launcher keeps showing me an error. I made another thread that was named something like problems with lan worlds. Plz help, I am thankful for your work so far
