I apologise if this issue has been brought up before - I have searched tirelessly for a solution, but I'm not quite sure if I'm phrasing it correctly in the search.
I'm having an issue with the Desktop launcher, wherein if I run the .exe (or .jar alternative) to open the application, it will open, but very quickly freeze, and eventually, fully crash my computer. (Recording of this happening here: )
This is not a new issue -- I have been experiencing this with the previous versions of the game as well -- but with the previous versions, I found a workaround: using the in-browser play option. But, unfortunately, in-browser gameplay is no longer an option, as it is in the process of being phased out.
Computer specifications are as follows:
OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1
Processor: AMD Phenom II X 4 910 Processor (2.6)
RAM: 16 GB
Graphics: Radeon HD 6700
Java: v7u15 (b1.7.0_15-b03)
Interestingly enough, I am able to run the Minecraft Server from this same machine without any issues whatsoever.
Any ideas what can be done to remedy this? I have tried redownloading everything from scratch multiple times, and that has had no effect.

Is there anywhere else I can submit this as a bug/issue? Any kind of support number to call or anything? I've been completely unable to play the game since the 1.6 update, and I've run out of things to try.
Are you still looking into this, or should I put in another request for someone else to look at it? This is not resolved in the slightest, and I'd really hate to think that all the work I've put into this game would be for nothing. This issue is completely preventing me from playing the game at all.

Try rebooting into Safe Mode with Networking, and see if the launcher crashes like that.
I want to make sure no 3rd party software you have running is interfering with the launcher somehow.

Same here -- none that I can think of. I've done several virus scans and those have come up clean. I can play any other game without any issue on ultra mode, including other java-based games. And I've always been able to play Minecraft flawlessly through the in-browser play option.
It's just never once worked from the desktop client, even since the day I got it. But now that the in-browser option is being phased out, my only option is the very one that has never once worked.
I am able to load the tumblr page in the browser -- I've reset my hosts file to default, disabled my firewall, and flushed dns to see if it was having any connectivity issues.
Running wireshark, I can see that the tumblr page connection was done without any problems at all by the client. But the second I click Log In, it's flooded with a massive amount of pnrp solicit, advertisement, and flood messages, as well as a continuous LAN discovery scan, which appears to not only be failing, but it also appears to be the reason my CPU spikes to 100%.
I do have a preferred local IP on this system which is outside the preferred range of the router, and I thought that might have been the issue, but it did not resolve it.

Are you still looking into this, or should I put in another request for someone else to look at it? This is not resolved in the slightest, and I'd really hate to think that all the work I've put into this game would be for nothing. This issue is completely preventing me from playing the game at all.

Try downloading the latest version and see if that resolves your problem.
Also as tyteen4a03 said, try launching the launcher without Fraps running.

It does the same thing with or without fraps loaded, though.
Same issue with the latest launcher -- just tried it both with Fraps and without.
I want to make sure no 3rd party software you have running is interfering with the launcher somehow.

After you have completely removed Java reboot your computer.
Download java from here and try running the launcher.

It's just never once worked from the desktop client, even since the day I got it. But now that the in-browser option is being phased out, my only option is the very one that has never once worked.
There is currently a bug titled: Launcher waits before webpage is loaded before becoming usable
I wonder if your launcher is having trouble loading the webpage, causing it to hang.

I am able to load the tumblr page in the browser -- I've reset my hosts file to default, disabled my firewall, and flushed dns to see if it was having any connectivity issues.
Running wireshark, I can see that the tumblr page connection was done without any problems at all by the client. But the second I click Log In, it's flooded with a massive amount of pnrp solicit, advertisement, and flood messages, as well as a continuous LAN discovery scan, which appears to not only be failing, but it also appears to be the reason my CPU spikes to 100%.
I do have a preferred local IP on this system which is outside the preferred range of the router, and I thought that might have been the issue, but it did not resolve it.
