(the reason i reposted this is beacuse the name of the other one wasen't saying the basics of the problem)
Since 1.6 i have been having trouble getting onto MC servers with my computer,i sometimes am able to get onto the server but it doesn't last long.I know it is not the server itself bc i am able to sometimes get on it.It randomly dc's me from the server and when i try to get back on it, it shows a error message of:
failed to login: <?xml version="1.0"?>
and when i am try to go onto the server list the internet goes out on me and when i close out the server list and wait a bit its fine after that.

I have tried deleating my MC game but that dosn't work.
I have tried updating java, nothing there either.
I have even tried to log out and log back in and still it did not work.

I don't know if its beacuse i am on windows 8 or if its beacuse something else but i would appreciate the help.

Did you buy the game? It sounds like you are trying to play a [email protected] version of the game on a legit server. But then I assume you could play on these servers pre 1.6 update. Which then it sounds like you started using a vpn or proxy and wherever it is located, it cannot access the servers very quick. Anyway that is just my thoughts, not really a good answer.

well i am sharing an account with a friend(they might have updated it first and started playing 1.6 before me). Then the account that the two of us are using is a account that did buy the game. Then whats a vpn or a proxy,i have never heard of those terms before(i must sound noobish saying that).
But is there a way to fix that.

Well if you don't know what a proxy or vpn is, then you are not using one(and no it is not noobish to not know what one is). Does your friend have the same problem?

my friend hasn't even updated to 1.6 yet bc of mod stuff so they are still on 1.5.2 so from here i am kinda at a loss for what to do,could it possible be the internet connection

Try this it worked for me,

Close the launcher and all other java applications
Press and hold the windows key, then press the R key, then release (i.e. press Win + R).
This causes the Run dialog to appear (bottom left).
Copy and paste the following command into the Run dialog:
setx _JAVA_OPTIONS -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
Press OK.
You may see a black screen appear and disappear very quickly.
Afterwards start the launcher and enjoy the game

how do i make sure all java stuff is closed out,i tried it when i thought everything else was closed out,i didn't see anything else opened up but i tried it and opened the launcher but it didn't work...should i uninstall java and then reinstall it.
