After updating the Minecraft launcher and client I am no longer able to fullscreen in minecraft without my screen going completely black. It does this in 1.6.1. and 1.5.2. My java was already updated to the latest version. When I tested it it 1.5.2. after I minimized my screen again I would be looking straight up and be spinning in circles. It would not respond to mouse movements but would respond to clicks. I had to enter the inventory screen to regain control. 1.6.1. did not have that particular problem.
Ok, I tinkered a bit and found that my machine refuses to play the game in full screen. I went into the Edit Profile screen to find out where my minecraft directory was. This allowed me to find and open the options.txt file. There is an entry called "fullscreen:". I typically run Minecraft in Fullscreen mode. Apparently, it does not like this. I changed the word after the colon to "false". If I go into the options, I can turn fullscreen back on, but it blacks out and I cannot see the buttons to turn it off again.
I've been using the F11 key to go in and out of fullscreen and the game does work when I'm in fullscreen, I just can't see anything. I'm going to do a fresh install and see what happens.
Edit: A reinstall didn't do anything. The minecraft launcher seems to be downloading the wrong resolutions for my default texture pack (I'm not running any mods). I can play in windowed but not in fullscreen because of this. I messed with the launcher and can get windowed mode to fullscreen but I cannot play in true fullscreen. Any help would be appreciated.
Same here too. I have Minecraft run under Mac Os X 10.6.8, Since I installed the new launcher it is not running in fullscreen mode anymore. I can still hear the sound and when I go with the cursor to the lowest edge of the screen a small strip will appear. I think it is reported as bug MC-20199. Nothing worked so far for me either.
I think it's a problem with the launcher downloading the files. I went back to the 1.5.2. launcher and I got my fullscreen back. When I tried to play 1.5.2. with the 1.6.1. launcher I could not get into fullscreen.
Hi I had the same problem! I could not find a fix for it ,but yesterday i downloaded the latest version of mac software called osx Mavericks! I went into minecraft and was able to go fullscreen no problem! osx mavericks is free and will update your mac from 10.6.8 to 10.9.2 click this link to read about it! [url="http://www.apple.com/osx/
P.S. It takes like 4 hours to install so be prepared to wait a while...
I have the problem with the screen going black too. I put it on fullscreen once and it went completely black but now every time I go into Minecraft the screen goes black before I can do anything so I can't play at all! someone please help. I have an iMac with OS 10.6 I believe

Is there any way to reset the graphics and resolution settings before we launch?
