I had the same problem. I managed to fix it by updating Java (it should have been already up to date, but it wasn't) then changing the graphics and after a couple more tries, my game works flawlessly now
The new minecraft launcher wasnt letting me log in and at first I thought it was an old launcher or something, but then I looked up on minecraftwiki and it showed the newest launcher to be 1.5.2 or something like that. Yesterday I could'nt figure out why it would not allow me to log in and so I tried deleting minecraft and downloading it again but it was still acting weird! Now I dont know what to do! I would like to play on minecraft cuz the server I play on upgraded to 1.61 and now I am stuck not being able to play AT ALL! PLZ HELP!

Whenever I use the oldlauncher for 1.5.2 or earlier, it works fine!
But... whenever I use the new launcher the game starts, I am able to select a world, but it crashesinstantly a second later.
The only way to get out of it is to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open task manager.
I also get a popup from Java SE Binary saying it has stopped working.
Anything?Woops, I needed to download the new launcher 1.0.8.
I had 0.7...Oh, that didn't fix it... still with the same problem...
