This is happening everytime I load Minecraft.exe
If use MC Patcher I can load the game with no issues.
If I play in browser there are no issues.
If I use a .bat script to load the game and bypass the launcher it loads fine.
I have removed the .minecraft folder and started from scratch with no luck.
I have ran only 32-bit Java
I have ran only 64-bit Java
Any ideas?
My configuration:
Dell XPS 8300
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-2500 CPU @3.3Ghz
RAM: 8GB
OS: 64-bit Win7 Pro
Vid Card: Nvidia GeForce GT 420
This is also happening with the new 1.6 launcher. No grey, but nothing loads and system gets very slow.

How to fix this:
I have made a program that will do this all for you if you are unable to follow the directions. The program may get flagged by your anti-virus as it is a new program and does not have a reputation yet. The program can be downloaded from here:
If you wish to fix it manually, then just follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Determining what version of java you have and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit.
1. First we need to find out whether the operating system is 32 or 64 bit. To do this, press the "windows" key and “pause” at the same time. Next to System type it will say whether it is a 64 bit or a 32 bit operating system.
2. If you have windows 64 bit, then we will need to check to see if you have the correct version of Java. Go to control panel and look for all programs named Java (Caution: Do not uninstall anything), and see if any of them have (x64) Next to it.
3. If you are running a 64-bit system, and you do not have 64-bit Java, it is advised that you install 64-bit java from here.
Step 2: Forcing java to use ipv4
1. Right click on the launcher and select create shortcut in the same place as your minecraft launcher.
2. Right click on the shortcut and select properties, and in the area named “Target” put this in:
3. click apply, and start minecraft using the shortcut we just made. It should work, if not, then continue reading.
4. If this does not work, you are most likely receiving an error saying that it is unable to find the location of java. that means that we need to specify the location of the java.exe. Put this as the target in the minecraft launcher shortcut instead:
5. If this still does not work, then you should make sure that both the minecraft launcher and its shortcut are placed on the desktop. Sometimes having the minecraft launcher and shortcut in a folder can cause issues.
If this does not work, this could be because of some protocols set by your antivirus. The most notorious antivirus for doing this is McAfee. If this is the case, I would suggest getting a different anti-virus. The one I recommend is Microsoft Security Essentials.
The first option still gives me the greyed out launcher, the seond option does this:
I am already using Microsoft Security Essentials and have added exceptions to MSE and Firewall where needed as suggested in other fourms.

I am running Microsoft Security Essentials, Basic windows Firewall. I checked all that. Here is the kicker, I have a laptop that is running Win7 64-bit and it runs fine.

I am pretty sure it can. Do you have any sure fire tests I can try? I have read through various other posts and have been unable to determine that Java is being blocked.

No other Java apps are being blocked. I also tried the force to IPv4. I am not seeing a block anywhere. When the option to play in browser was available I could play there. That was how I was updating.

Exceptions for Java were already added in the Windows Firewall. I checked to make sure the process that the launcher starts up (javaw.exe) was not blocked and it is not. Fro whatever reason javaw.exe is hanging. I have tried removing Java, restarting then reinstalling and have had no luck.
The reason the browser was working was because everything was going through the browser.
I understand that. I was just pointing out that I now can no longer update my client as the online option is gone. I would really like to use the native launcher though., or I am going to be stuck at 1.5.2

I forgot that I had this issue before and the only fix was to have me use a .bat script to start play and go the website and load in browser to get game updates. The topic post on this very same fourm site is here. This is the error here it was saved on pastebin.
You can try minecraft, but if it fails again reinstall the drivers for that.
It is the shading to be exact. (that is not used in the game itself)
So we tried the Directx and I updated graphics drivers and still was left with using the .bat script to load the game. Recently here I tried to push graphics settings for javaw.exe through the Nividia Control Panel. Even when turning shading off in that module after adding all javaw.exe to the programs list I was unable to get it to work.

I have downloaded the new launcher (1.2.1) so I could play version 1.6.2
I am having the same issue as before. Anyone have any fresh ideas on this? I would really like to enjoy some of the new stuff I am stuck with playing MC on 1.4.2
