So I encountered a problem: the Minecraft clients (both the 1.52 launcher and the new Minecraft Launcher created for 1.6 onwards) won't start at all. I click on them and nothing happens, it's as if I hadn't clicked on them at all.
Things were working fine a few days ago. I can still play Minecraft via the browser. I have Windows 8 64 bit and I'm running Java 7 Update 25 32 bit (too lazy to change over to Java 64 bit; but I'm pretty sure this isn't the problem since I ran the clients fine on 32 bit Java before). Though, according to Fried Zombie's error test it does have something to do with Java.
"Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object" <- is apparently what's wrong. I'm not that computer savvy so I don't know what that means unforunately.

I just uninstalled Java via my control panel and reinstalled, choosing the location that I usually have it in. Now things are working fine.
