when i try to open to lan it just shows the port and i am not able to conect to anyone and same for them! HELP!
also i downgraded to 1.5.2 and im having the 0.0.0.0 PROBLEM!
Lan is over the same network connection such as the same wifi or home network to use it over the internet you need programs that create such connections like hamchie there are several tutorials on how to make a hamchie lan server that you and friends can play on. Hope this helps.
Really? Finally they stopped confusing people with the 0.0.0.0 display [which is not a problem in any way, shape, or form]
As harshidragon said, LAN is for local lan based games. Not for internet based games. If you are trying locally and it fails it is due to a firewall / security program blocking it.
I'm having this same exact problem.
I was going to play with my sister (note her computer is right next to mine) on the new 1.6.1 update, but when she clicked on my LAN, it said Connecting to the server... then it fails to connect. And when she makes a LAN, I don't even see it in the multiplier bar.

I was having this same issue with my brother. We tried everything. Finally, we updated our Java and it magically started working again.
So yea. Update your stuff to at least 7.25
[EDIT]
Just kidding, I take it all back. It worked like twice. Now I can't see his open LAN game anymore. Has any one officially reported this issue?
Treat it like a server: get the hoster to find the ip (google 'how to find ip address') and direct connect to that ip if you are joining.
I don't know why this is happening, maybe for realms?
